Farmhouse Soup Starter Mix

 Contents of jar:
 Ingredients: barley, green lentils, split peas, wild rice blend (Lundberg ‘Wild Blend Rice’: long grain brown rice, sweet brown rice, wild rice, whole grain Wehani rice, whole grain black Japonica rice), minced dried onions, parsley flakes, lemon pepper seasoning (lemon peel, black pepper)

 Recipe:

 Makes 8 servings, 1+ cup each
 Prep Time: 10 minutes
 Total Time: 1 hour and 10 minutes

 Ingredients:
Contents of Soup Starter jar
6 cups of low sodium broth
2 stalks chopped celery
2 sliced carrots
½ cup parsnips chopped into ½ inch pieces (any root vegetable will work)
2 cups diced tomatoes (one 14.5 oz can – undrained)
fresh parsley or chives– for garnish

 Preparation:
Put all ingredients into a stockpot over medium low heat. Cover and simmer about 1 hour to cook grains and test when vegetables are tender. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives if available.
