Beef & Barley Soup Starter Mix Contents of jar: Ingredients: Barley, green lentils, wheat berries, minced dried onions, parsley flakes, celery flakes, bay leaves, thyme leaves, minced garlic, black pepper Recipe: Makes 8 servings, 2 cups each Prep Time: 10 minutes Total Time: 2 hours Ease of Preparation: Easy Ingredients: 2 pounds boneless beef chuck, cut in 1/2- inch pieces or 2 pound 93% lean hamburger 1 tablespoon vegetable oil Contents of soup starter jar 5 cups each, low sodium beef broth and water Preparation: Heat oil in Dutch oven over medium heat and brown the meat. Pour off drippings. Add the contents of soup starter jar, water and broth to Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover tightly and simmer 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours or until beef is fork tender. Discard bay leaves.
